Upgrade advice for people who already own the Bambu Lab printer, written by one person who does too.

Who writes this

Michael W. — the hands-on owner behind The First Buyer. Every page on this site carries that byline because one person writes all of them. There is no editorial team and no contributor network, and where you see "I" on this site it means one person rather than a house voice.

That is worth stating plainly because it is unusual in this niche. Of the twelve competitor sites looked at while planning this one, seven publish no named author at all — including the only other Bambu-dedicated site, which describes itself as "independent and honest" with no byline anywhere.

Who it is for

You already own an A1, an A1 mini, a P1S or an X1C. You know what a nozzle is, you have opinions about build plates, and you are trying to fix one specific weakness rather than learn the hobby.

Nothing here explains what FDM printing is. Nothing here is written for a first-time buyer, and the word "beginner" does not appear as a positioning anywhere on the site — which is the single clearest difference between this site and every competitor in the category.

What this site will not do

Claim to have tested things. There is no test lab behind this site, no measurement rig and no benchmark data. You will not read "in our testing" here, because it would not be true. What you get is published specifications, each attributed to a source, plus judgment about which problem a product solves. How that works in detail.

Quote prices. Prices in this category move weekly, and a figure typed into an article is wrong within a month. Every buy button goes to the live listing instead.

Invent numbers. Where a specification could not be attributed to a source, the row is absent rather than estimated. Several pages here say "not stated in our sources" where a competitor would have filled in a figure. Bambu Lab's own site blocks automated access, so no official spec sheet sits behind these pages and they say so.

Publish ratings or reviews of its own. No star ratings, no scores presented as review data, and no testimonials — because this site has none to quote and inventing them would be the fastest way to deserve being ignored.

What it is funded by

Amazon affiliate commissions, and nothing else. If you buy something through a link here, this site earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. There are no sponsored reviews, no paid placements and no manufacturer supplying hardware in exchange for coverage.

The clearest evidence that it does not change the advice: the most important page on the site concludes that most P1S owners should keep their printer and spend a fifth of the money. That earns considerably less than recommending a new machine would. It is also the right answer. Full disclosure.

How to reach me

contact@plateandspool.com or the contact form. Corrections get read first. If something here is wrong, telling me is more useful than being polite about it — the correction policy says what happens next.

The site as it stands

82 content pages across six sections: which printer to step up to, AMS and multi-color, enclosures, nozzles and build plates, filament drying, and the upgrades worth printing or buying. Every page is reachable in two clicks from the homepage, and the full list is here.
