Editorial policy

What this site promises about accuracy and sourcing, and what happens when it gets something wrong.

Sourcing

Every specification on this site is attributed. Each page carries a Sources list naming where its figures came from — a manufacturer's documentation, a retailer listing, a vendor product page, or a named third-party publication.

Where a figure could not be attributed, it is absent rather than estimated. Several pages here have a table row reading "not stated in our sources" where a competitor would have filled in a number. That is deliberate and it is the policy working, not a page being incomplete.

One specific consequence worth naming: Bambu Lab's own site blocks automated access, so no official spec sheet sits behind these pages. Build volumes and chamber temperatures that appear here are labeled reported and sourced to the third-party roundups that published them. They are not presented as official figures, because they are not.

Claims this site does not make

  • Test results. There is no test lab, no measurement rig and no benchmark data. No phrasing implying otherwise appears anywhere. How we review.
  • Credentials. No certifications, qualifications, awards, tenure or printer-ownership counts are claimed for the author beyond what is stated on the About page.
  • Prices. No numeric price appears in body copy, tables or structured data. Buy buttons go to the live retailer listing.
  • Ratings. No star ratings, no scores presented as review data, and no rating markup in the page's structured data.
  • Testimonials. None, because this site has none to quote. An invented one would be the fastest way to deserve being ignored.
  • Stock as our own. Photographs on product cards are licensed stock images of the product class, and every card that uses one says so in visible copy.

Corrections

Corrections are prioritized over every other kind of message. If a figure here is wrong, a source has been misread, or a product has been discontinued, saying so is the most useful thing a reader can do.

What happens: the claim gets checked against its source. If the source was wrong, the figure is removed or replaced and the source updated. If the page misread a correct source, the page is fixed. Either way the page's "last reviewed" date changes, which is how you can tell something happened.

What does not happen: a silent edit presented as though the page always said that. Where a correction changes a recommendation rather than a detail, the page says what changed.

Updates and freshness

This category moves unusually fast — seven printer releases in fifteen months at one point — so dates matter more here than in most niches. Every page shows when it was published and, where they differ, when it was last reviewed.

The most common failure mode in this niche is an article that was correct in 2024 and has never been touched since. That is why several pages here open by stating what has changed in the lineup: an X1-Carbon presented as the current flagship is not a small error, it is a recommendation to overpay.

Independence

Plate & Spool has no relationship with Bambu Lab or with any manufacturer whose products appear on it. No product on this site was supplied by a manufacturer, and there are no sponsored reviews and no paid placements.

The site is funded by Amazon affiliate commissions. The disclosure page explains exactly how that works and what it does not change — including the fact that the most important page here recommends keeping your printer, which earns less than recommending a new one.

Authorship

Every page is written by Michael W. and carries that byline. There is no contributor network, no editorial team, and no AI-generated content published without that attribution standing behind it. Where you read "I" on this site it means one person.

Links

Outbound commercial links are affiliate links and are marked as sponsored in the page's markup, per Google's link policy. Links used purely as citations — manufacturer documentation, third-party sources — are not affiliate links and earn nothing.

Internal links exist to move you toward the right answer, which is frequently a cheaper answer than the page you landed on.
