Bambu Lab A2L
A large open bed and a blade toolhead, released June 2026. It is more A1, which means it does not fix what A1 owners upgrade to escape.

Is the A2L the right upgrade from an A1?
Only if your complaint is size. If your complaint is materials — which is what pushes most A1 owners to upgrade — then a larger open-frame machine is the wrong direction, and the answer is an enclosure or an enclosed printer.
The blade cutter is a genuine second capability if you work with sheet material. If you do not, it is a feature you are paying for.
What a blade toolhead is for
Cutting flat material — vinyl, card, thin sheet — from the same machine and the same software that prints. For anyone whose projects already combine printed parts with cut material, a single machine that does both is a real workflow simplification rather than a specification bullet.
For everyone else it is dead weight. Be honest about which you are: the H2D Laser Edition is reported to carry laser, blade and pen toolheads too, and multi-function machines are bought with more enthusiasm than they are used.
The honest limits
Open frame. ABS, ASA, polycarbonate and nylon are all out, for the same reason as the A1 and A1 mini. This is the central thing to understand about the machine.
Almost nothing third-party fits it. Released June 2026. The accessory catalog that exists for the P1S does not exist here.
A thin SERP, which cuts both ways. Very little has been written about it, so there is little independent experience to draw on — including ours.
A large open bed needs a large enclosure if you ever change your mind. Enclosing a large-format open machine is a much bigger job than enclosing an A1.
How it compares
A1 vs A2L is the decision page. Upgrading from an A1 puts it in context against the enclosure route, which is the one most A1 owners should take.

1. Best large open-frame machine
Bambu Lab A2L
Large-format PLA and PETG plus a blade cutter, without enclosed-machine money.
Released June 2026 as a large-format machine whose headline feature is a blade cutter. It is the biggest open-frame printer in the lineup.
The genuine appeals are large-format capability without enclosed-machine pricing, an open frame that cools well for high-speed PLA, and a second toolhead job if you also cut sheet material.
The problem is positioning. The limit most A1 owners hit is materials, not size, and a larger open frame does nothing about materials. I have not run one — released June 2026, this is positioning rather than observation, and the search results for it are nearly empty.
What it gets right
- Large format without the price of an enclosed H2-class machine
- The blade cutter makes it a two-job machine for anyone who also cuts sheet material
- Open frame is far easier to keep cool for high-speed PLA
What it does not
- Released June 2026, so almost nothing third-party fits it yet and the SERP for it is nearly empty
- Open frame rules out ABS and ASA, which is exactly the limit people upgrade to escape
- I have not run one; everything on this site about the A2L is positioning, not observation

Questions people actually ask
Can the Bambu Lab A2L print ABS?
Not reliably. It is open-frame, like the A1 and A1 mini, and ABS needs a warm chamber to avoid warping and layer splitting. If ABS is why you are upgrading, a larger open-frame machine is the wrong direction entirely.
What is the A2L's blade cutter for?
Cutting flat material such as vinyl, card or thin sheet from the same machine and software that prints. It is genuinely useful if your projects already combine printed parts with cut material, and dead weight if they do not.
Is the A2L a good upgrade from an A1?
Only if size is your actual complaint. It is a larger version of the same class of machine, so it shares the A1's material ceiling. For most A1 owners the limit is materials rather than bed size, which makes an enclosure or an enclosed machine the better upgrade.
Are there many accessories for the A2L?
Not yet. It was released in June 2026, so the third-party catalog that exists for the P1S - plates, hotends, ducts, screens - has barely started for this machine. If modifying your printer is part of the appeal, that is a real cost to factor in.
