Bambu Lab X1-Carbon

Lidar, an aluminum enclosure and a hardened nozzle as standard. Also two generations behind the top of the range, which almost no article mentions.

The X1C in 2026, stated plainly

The X1-Carbon is a capable enclosed machine and it is not the current flagship. The H2D superseded it in March 2025 and the X2D followed in April 2026.

Buy it used, where lidar plus an aluminum enclosure plus a hardened nozzle is a lot of printer for the money. Do not buy it new at the price it used to command, and treat any article presenting it as the best Bambu printer as out of date.

What it still does better than a P1S

Lidar bed leveling and first-layer inspection. The P-series does not have this at all. It catches a bad first layer early, which on a twelve-hour print is worth real money in filament.

An aluminum enclosure. Better at holding chamber heat than the P1S's panels, which matters directly for ABS and ASA reliability.

A hardened steel nozzle as standard. Carbon-filled filament on day one, with no hotend purchase first.

A 5-inch touchscreen. The thing P1S owners buy a Panda Touch for.

The honest limits

It is a 2022-generation machine. Two newer machines sit above it and its resale value is on a downward path. That is fine if you buy accordingly and bad if you do not.

Single nozzle. The current top of the range is dual, which means no soluble supports in a second polymer and no two-material parts.

Passive chamber. Better insulated than a P1S, still not actively heated. The X2D is the machine with the reported 65 C heated chamber — X1C vs X2D.

256 mm class build volume. Same wall as the P-series.

How it compares

X1C vs P1S is the comparison people search most, usually while choosing used. X1C vs X2D is the one that explains why the lineup moved.

1. Best used buy

Bambu Lab X1-Carbon

A lot of machine at used prices, and a mistake at the price it used to command.

The X1 launched in May 2022 as an enclosed CoreXY printer with lidar-based bed leveling and a 5-inch touchscreen; the X1-Carbon variant adds an aluminum enclosure, a hardened steel nozzle and an auxiliary cooling fan.

Three of those are still genuinely ahead of a P1S. Lidar gives you first-layer inspection the P-series does not have. The aluminum enclosure holds chamber heat better than the P1S's panels. And the hardened nozzle as standard means abrasive filament is a day-one capability rather than a purchase.

What has changed is its position. It is not the flagship and has not been since March 2025. That is a pricing fact, not a quality one — and it is exactly why it is now interesting used.

What it gets right

  • Ships with a hardened steel nozzle, so abrasive filament is a day-one capability rather than a purchase
  • Lidar bed leveling and first-layer inspection, which the P-series does not have
  • An aluminum enclosure holds chamber heat better than the P1S's panels

What it does not

  • It is not the current flagship and has not been since March 2025 — buying it new at flagship money is a mistake
  • The H2D and X2D both exceed it, so resale value is on a downward path
  • Single nozzle, where the current top of the range is dual

Questions people actually ask

Is the X1-Carbon still the best Bambu Lab printer?

No. It stopped being the top of the range in March 2025 when the H2D launched, and the X2D followed in April 2026. This is the most common out-of-date claim in the niche, and it exists because the articles that said it were never updated. The X1C remains a capable enclosed machine - it is just not the flagship.

Is the X1C better than the P1S?

In four specific ways: lidar bed leveling and first-layer inspection, an aluminum enclosure that holds chamber heat better, a hardened steel nozzle as standard, and a touchscreen. The build volume class is the same and both are single-nozzle. Whether those four are worth the price difference depends heavily on whether you buy used.

Should I buy a used X1C in 2026?

It is a reasonable buy at used prices, and the hardened nozzle plus lidar plus aluminum enclosure combination is a lot of printer for the money. Check the nozzle and the build plate, since both are consumables, and factor in that resale value will keep drifting down as newer machines land.

Does the X1C need a hardened nozzle upgrade?

No - the X1-Carbon ships with a hardened steel nozzle, which is one of its genuine advantages over the P-series. You would only be buying a nozzle to change diameter, not material.
